Q: I registered for a course, but now I can’t make it. Can I get a refund?
A: No, sorry. The good news is that registrations are transferable to a friend. Just let us know who is coming in your place via email and we will leave it to you and your friend to work out how the debt is to be repaid (really, this is none of our business).
Q: Who are you, and how did you come up with this amazing idea?
A: We are the Dovercourt Recreation Association, and well…we didn’t. The Westboro Brainery is based on a formula developed by some very cool people in Brooklyn and Rochester NY. While we are totally unaffiliated in a businesslike way with these new friends, they helped us enormously. We identified a supply and demand of creative thinkers in the area, and thought this model would work really well.
Q: Where do these classes take place?
A: For now, all the classes happen at either Dovercourt Recreation Centre or McKellar Park Field House. We are looking for new spots though: coffee shops, retail stores, community spaces, warehouses, wine bars etc. If you have a space you’d like to share as a class location, please contact us.
Q: How long are the classes?
A: Most classes are between 1.5 and 3 hours long, depending on the material and the experience of the instructor. We recommend that first time teachers shoot for a 1.5 hour class before tackling a 3 hour adventure.
Q: If I teach a class, do I get paid?
A: Yes. Yes, you do. You are paid in dollars or classes, and the choice is yours. If you choose dollars, your rate is $30/hour. If you’d prefer be paid in brain power, the rate is participation in 2 classes per 1 class taught.
Q: Who do I talk to if I want to share feedback?
A: Billy. Billy Russell is our Westboro Brainery Manager, and he’d be happy to hear from you by phone, email or in email@example.com,
613-798-8950 ext. 242, 411 Dovercourt Ave, Ottawa, ON K2A 0S9
Q: Do you ever have to cancel classes?
A: Sometimes, due to poor weather conditions, instructor illness, low registration (4 or less) classes will be cancelled. If this does happen, you’ll be notified by email and we will do our best to reschedule.
Q: Why are some classes identified with the “P/S” logo?
A: Classes identified with “P/S” are run by a company or individual that is looking to inform you about their product or service, with the hopes of selling it to you – a live infomercial of sorts. The entities delivering the information have paid the Brainery for the opportunity to do so. We do not necessarily condone, support blah, blah, blah the products or services, blah, blah, blah, but we will take their cash to help keep your class fees low.
Q: Can I bring my kids?
A: No, and not because we don’t like kids, but because the subject matter of the classes isn’t likely to keep their interest. And as we all know, uninterested kids can be just a touch disruptive to those who are there to teach and learn.
