Q1: What is your refund policy?
A #1: If DOVERCOURT cancels the class, due to low enrolment (or any other reason), you will receive an email notifying you of the cancellation and automatic credit on your account that can be used towards any programming at Dovercourt. If you prefer a refund, you need to call Customer Service at 613-798-8950, ext 0.
A #2: If YOU withdraw from a class, MORE THAN 7 DAYS BEFORE the class takes place, you will receive a full credit toward any programming at Dovercourt. If you prefer a refund, you need to call Customer Service at 613-798-8950, ext 0.
A #3: If YOU withdraw LESS THAN 7 DAYS BEFORE the class takes place, you will receive a full credit towards any programming at Dovercourt, but you will NOT be eligible for a refund.
Q2: Who are you, and how did you come up with this amazing idea?
A: We are the Dovercourt Recreation Association, and as innovative as we fancy ourselves to be, we sadly can't lay claim to this brilliant concept. The Westboro Brainery is modelled on the pioneering vision of the Brooklyn Brainery in Brooklyn, New York. And while we have no business association with the Brooklyn Brainery, we must say that they have helped us tremendously by sharing their own experiences and successes with us. Our Westboro Brainery Coordinator, Sarah Banks has even been lucky enough to have had a personal tour of the Brooklyn Brainery by its co-founder, Jen Messier.
Q3: Where do these classes take place?
A: Classes can be held in a number of different places, including Dovercourt Recreation Association, Bluesfest School of Music & Art (Festival House), Van Lang Field House and the McKellar Park Field House. We are also open to having instructors host classes in other locations such as parks, cafes, pubs and churches, and we will do our very best to help you coordinate this.
Q4: How long are the classes?
A: Most classes are between 1.5 and 3 hours long, depending on the material and the experience of the instructor. We recommend that first-time teachers shoot for a 1.5 hour class before tackling a 3 hour adventure.
Q5: If I teach a class, do I get paid?
A: If you have little or no teaching experience, we ask that you teach your first class pro-bono. In exchange, we will give you access to a free class of your choosing by another instructor. After that first class is under your belt, and provided the class is generally well-received, you will be compensated for all future classes you teach at a rate of $25 per hour.
Q6: Do you ever have to cancel classes?
A: Sometimes, due to poor weather conditions, instructor illness or low registration, classes will be cancelled. If this does happen, you’ll be notified by email and we will do our best to reschedule.
Q7: Can I bring my kids?
A: Teenagers (14 and up) are welcome to take a class at the Brainery. But we say no to the younger set because the subject matter of the classes isn’t likely to keep their interest. And as we all know, uninterested kids can be just a touch disruptive to those who are there to teach and learn.
